2023 Elections: Adeola Azeez Advocates Women Political Participation, Value Based Politics and Non-Violent Campaign

House of Representatives Candidate for Ijebu Central Federal Constituency Mrs. Adeola Azees has called for more women political participation, value-based politics and non-violent campaign ahead of the forthcoming 2023 General Elections.

Adeola Azeez made this known while featuring on a news and current affairs programme, Frontline, on Eagle 102.5 FM on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 as she discussed Women Participation in Politics.

The radio interview afforded her opportunity to express her dissatisfaction with the rejection of women related bills by the National Assembly as part of ongoing Constitutional Review exercise. The accomplished banker described the lawmakers’ gesture as a setback caused by un-enlightened National Assembly. Meanwhile, she expressed optimism that the bill would be reversed.

Mrs Adeola also posited that women are already disadvantaged with less than 5% representation in the National Assembly, while also condemning the rejection of bill disallowing Nigerian women to share citizenship with their foreign spouse.

She called for a level playing field where women can participate, aspire and contest like their male counterpart.

The SDP Ijebu Central Federal Constituency Candidate also expressed displeasure with the low number of women participation in the forthcoming elections, while also highlighting some obstacles women face to include party’s constitution and structure, electoral violence among others.

Adeola Azeez commended the Social Democratic Party’s leadership for providing a level playing field for all aspirants regardless of their gender, religion or background.

Mrs Adeola Azees who has spent 30 years in corporate setting as a banker and lawyer lamented the gross participation of women which does not translate into mass support for women candidates.

“I am a fresh breath of air and have also demonstrated evidence based leadership. I love people. I don’t think it before helping people. Helping people is a second nature.” She remarked.

While exploring her background, Mrs Adeola recalled being the daughter of the Pan Yoruba Socio-Political Group Leader Ayo Adebanjo, she has been politically aware but not politically engaged until now.

On how to bring development to Ijebu Ceentral Federal Constituency, Adeola Azeez said she had conducted a critical, professional, empirical research and has identified commonalities and peculiarities in the problems encountered by the 3 Local Governments in her federal constituency which include Ijebu North East, Ijebu Ode and Odogbolu.  She cited food, water, electricity, unemployment and migration among other things begging for immediate action.

Adeola Azeez stressed that Ijebu North East has major problem of road access to their farms, being an agrarian society. Ijebu Ode has massive unemployment which has led to massive enrollment into cyber fraud. She maintained that the opportunities in technology are sufficient and assured of bringing youth to this reality through partnership programme with foreign tech company.

Mrs Adeola highlighted some of her people-oriented programmes to include empowerment of over 500 women from the 3 Local Governments, partnership with International body, ETIWA to assess level of education and skill set of youth, installation of boreholes in Erelu, including facilitating the repair of Transformers to certain communities. She recalled Eyin Osun, a town in Ijebu North East without road, electricity or any form of mobile communication. “But as I speak with you, a mast is being erected in that Eyin Osun.” She remarked.

The House of Representative candidate said she has installed road signages to 18 communities in Ogbo Kingdom, located in Odogbolu Local Government of the state..

Adeola Azeez went on to provide insight into her agenda When she gets into office which includes pushing for independent candidacy bill, Diaspora voting and representing the Women Gender Based Bill among other ideas that will engender development in her constituency.

The accomplished banker revealed that funding for her political ambition has come largely from her network of friends and families. “I have a track record where I have been run an institution in an accountable, transparent and all-inclusive manner.

She however maintained that politics of 2023 is not a money driven one adding that vice presidential debate, senatorial debate, representatives debate and deputy governor’s Debate should be enocouraged among candidates.
